Target Audience

I think that our final movie would be rated at PG according to the BBFC standard rating because it features mild horror and suspense in a fantasy environment. For the beginning of the film there isn't much of these, but the rest of the film would involve aliens which some children might find disturbing so we would not be able to rate out film a 'U'.

Final Movie Blog Post

We are all relatively happy with how the film turned out in the end.
For the end scene where it pans up to 'space' it didn't work as well as I had expected because of the lighting, but other than that all music and editing was how we wanted it to turn out.

For one of the shots you could see our mouths moving but you couldn't hear what we were saying so we had to dub over it in post which I think works out quite well

Credits

The opening credits in a film or TV series highlight the most important members of the production. Opening credits are normally shown as text on a blank screen or some static pictures or sometimes on the top of the action in the show. There may or may not be music to accompany it.
Opening credits are normally built into a separate sequence of their own and this is called the title sequence

Potential target audience

The type of audience which we are aiming our film at are young children, potentially young males as they are generally more interested in the topic area that our film is based on.
Other media products that our target audience might consume include:
TV
Xbox
Play station
Magazines

Costume/Prop Planning

COSTUME
There is no specific costume. By setting it in this year only in a parallel universe means that we don’t have to worry about any fancy dress.

PROPS
The main will need to have a flyer of the ‘Annual Comet Surfing Championships’ which we will design using Photoshop. The final should be printed on Red paper to emphasise the importance of it in the plot.

The two friends will need to have bags of some sort that they can pick up and walk off with.

Storyboard

Comet Surfer Script

Text overlaid on tracking shots of planets/space etc.
In a universe very similar to our own, interstellar travel is a common happening, with the human race constantly travelling to new and distant planets, meeting new races and discovering new planets. Among these discoveries is Stella Critina – The Planet of Comets, a favourite among many alien species due to a new sport that has taken the whole Universe by storm. Comet Surfing …

Close up of sun/extreme bright light. Cut to extreme close up of eyes. Long stare upwards, presumably at the sun, blink, pause and cut
Our story begins on Earth with 16 year old __________, your average teenager, but with an astronomical dream – to become the world best Comet Surfer.

Long shot, people at bench, main singled out slightly but centred in frame, friends off to side in heated conversation w/o main. Prolong shot to give absence of mind.
Conversations dies down, friend looks at main then follows line of sight to sky.
“Hey!” Friend nudges playfully, main ‘snaps-out’ and turns to friend
Over the shoulder from main – shot reverse shot follows
“You can’t just keep thinking about that stuff!”
Reaction shot of main, vacant stare
Friend tuts/sighs to show frustration and turns back round to other. Cut to side on shot of main with friends in background picking up bags and walking off.
Main stays sat, now looking down at hands.
POV Staring down into palms at flyer
Reading aloud to self “Annual Comet Surfing Contest, London, UK, Earth”
Grip tightens slightly on page with determination and there is a slow pan upwards and the skyline is revealed – Not normal blue sky but a deep space picture with stars, nebulas, sun etc
Pan up gradually gets darker and the abundance of planets/nebulas are lost – Slow black fade out w/ panning.

Recce Research - Location

Long Shot of bench - People will be on it in final piece.

A high angle shot of bench can be achieved

A POV shot of sky - A matte painting could be made of space

The POV shot could then pan up to space as a fade away/out transition

Comet Surfing! : Children's Film Opening Ideas

IDEA 1

BACK STORY : In another universe, very similar to our own - only many, many years ahead technologically. The human race has travelled far and wide across the galaxy and come across many interesting places including Stella Crinita, the Planet of Comets.
Comet surfing has become one of the most popular extreme sports and one of the most watched programs on galactic television by any race.
The story centers on a young boy who aspires to become the universe's best Comet Surfer.

Film starts with credits of shortened back story over rolling shots of space then cuts to an extreme close up of to a the main characters eyes staring upwards. Long shot of main and friends sitting on a bench somewhere, main is staring up at sky completely zoned from the other friends who are talking. His friend gives a nudge to main char and says that they need to stop daydreaming and keep their head in the real world. Main looks disheartened and looks down at hand at a flyer for the 3023 Comet Surfing Championships follwed by a long fade to black.

Alternate Universe! : Children's Film Opening Ideas

IDEA 1

Person 1 is walking with Person 2 to their next lessons when P1 falls over and get's knocked out. P2 checks how P1 is (sound is muffled etc). P1 doesn't wake up and wakes up in an alternate universe where everything is opposite - colours are all inverted apart from P1

When P1 wakes up P2 is mean to him and asks where he is going to next lesson - P2 says he is going left and then goes 'right'. P1 is confused and the film commences with a short montage of strange 'opposite' quirky goings-on spliced with close ups of P1's eye's flicking back and forth to each thing.

IDEA 2

Keep original idea, apart form the 'alt universe' isn't inverted, it is instead a magical universe where his friend is a unicorn or some sort of mystical creature. P1 is tentative at first, but slowly realises that everything is the same, just magical!
